Cicada
Immersive theatre and visual art
An immersive blend of theatre and visual art exploring the tumultuous life, memories, and sacrifices of an unnamed artist.
By Tegan Ware From dusty 90s suburbia to the dazzling world of upscale art galleries, Cicada follows a young artist from childhood dreams under the Hills Hoist to the dizzying heights of success and the subsequent fall from grace. Be transported to the sun-soaked suburban childhood of a young boy. It is summer in Wollongong. It is hot. Do you hear the cicadas? One day this boy will have his artworks shown in renowned galleries across the country. One day this boy’s career will end in scandal and he will vanish from public view. Guided by two helpful gallery attendants, audiences are invited into the world of the artist, learning about his childhood, his family and why he inevitably did what he did. Staged in The Chambers at Wollongong Art Gallery and featuring artwork by Steve Tierney, Cicada is an immersive blend of theatre and visual art from local writer Tegan Ware.
